Kanpur: In an unnerving act, a man, whose two brothers are in jail for raping a girl, punctured an eye of the victim with a big needle and damaged the other seriously, in Unnao on Wednesday evening.

Puttan was exerting pressure on the victim to withdraw the case filed against his brothers around a year back.

The victim who was raped in captivity had allegedly become pregnant after the heinous crime.

Neha Pandey, SP Unnao, said police teams were making efforts to arrest Puttan who escaped after committing the crime.

“The victim has been rushed to LLR hospital in Kanpur and a case is being registered with the Maakhi police,” she said.

The victim was attacked when she was going to attend the nature’s call in a field nearby.

She told police that Puttan followed her and told her to withdraw the case. When she refused, he attacked her with a lathi.

Later, he tied a big needle on the tip of the lathi and punctured one of her eyes with it. Some locals who were nearby rushed to rescue her but he escaped from the scene.

She was first taken to the community health centre (CHC) from where she was referred to Kanpur. Ashok Singh, circle officer Safipur, said Puttan’s brothers were in jail and he was pressurizing the victim to withdraw the case since long.
