The registrar and deputy registrar (exam) at Dr BR Ambedkar University exchanged blows in the former’s chamber on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy registrar Sindhi Ram alleged he was abused and assaulted by the registrar who denied the allegations and blamed the deputy registrar instead.

The vice-chancellor constituted a fact-finding committee to examine facts on the basis of CCTV footage available.

The incident took place when Sindhi Ram reached the office of Registrar KN Singh. The deputy registrar was carrying a file related to a panel of teachers who are to evaluate the answer sheets of exams.

The sanction of the registrar was required for payments to be made to these teachers.

Sources revealed that the registrar had asked for some more documents related to the file to which deputy registrar gave some logic that was unacceptable to the registrar. This led to a verbal duel that resulted in exchange of blows.

“I had gone to seek sanction on some file related to evaluation, but registrar KN Singh misbehaved with me, passed caste-based remarks and punched me,” alleged Sindhi Ram.

“The matter has been brought to V-C Arvind Kumar Dixit’s notice,” added Sindhi Ram who added that an FIR would be lodged under relevant section of IPC besides SC/ST Act.

Registrar KN Singh too blamed the deputy registrar for attacking him and stated that the reality would be revealed by the footage of CCTV camera placed in his office. The registrar threatened to take the matter to the police.

“The matter was brought to the notice of the V-C who constituted a fact-finding team that would look into the CCTV footage. Thereafter, legal recourse would be taken accordingly,” said Dr Girija Shankar, spokesperson of Ambedkar University.
