Experts discuss culture of Mithila, literature

The centre for cultural texts, records and translatio­n of Indian literature­s, department of English and modern European languages, Lucknow University, organised a two-day national seminar on Indian literature, starting Friday.

In the inaugural session, chief guest Padma Shri Usha Kiran Khan applauded efforts of the department of English Literature to promote, understand and appreciate regional languages of north India. She talked about the culture of Mithila and her book Bhamati, based on the local legend of Bhamati and her husband. Prof Khan also responded to the questions posed by teachers and students regarding contempora­ry feminist trends.

Prof Sachida Nand Jha talked about how and why theme of a novel inspire him to write a review of the book. He also pointed out reasons which make translatio­n studies the future of academia. Also speaking on the occasion, Prof Sadanand Shahi apprised the gathering about Bhojpuri literature- its emergence, developmen­t, trajectory, literature and future plausible areas. On the second day on Saturday, the session would be devoted to the Awadhi Literature. Jagdish Piyush and Vidya Bindu Singh would speak on the subject. This would be followed by paper reading sessions.
