Physicians need to be updated about diabetes, says PGI doc
India is considered diabetes capital of the world but the country lacks enough resources to tackle this problem.
Keeping this in mind, department of endocrinology, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has decided to organise a programme called ‘Diabetes-Endocrinology Update 2017’ at the telemedicine auditorium on March 18 and 19.
Dr Subhash of department of endocrinology, SGPGIMS said, “The physicians need to take a larger role to reduce the burden of high prevalence of poorly controlled diabetes and that’s why we are organising this programme to update their knowledge about the disease.”
He added, “The prevalence of obesity is on the rise, but it still does not grab the attention of the patient and, on many occasions, of the physician too.”
“We also lack adequate resources, manpower and training to deal with children with type 1 diabetes, thyroid disorders, short stature, rickets and so on. With this programme, we intend to pass on the latest knowledge about diabetes to general physicians, paediatricians and medical students,” said Dr Subhash.
Several lectures, debates, interesting case presentations focused on latest literature on clinical diagnosis and management of diabetes, thyroid disorders, obesity, reproductive endocrinology, osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases, and paediatric endocrinology will be discussed during the programme.
Dr Sanjay Bhadada from PGI Chandigarh, Dr Praveen VP from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi and Dr Rajni Sharma from AIIMS, New Delhi are among the notable faculties, who will deliver guest lectures.
“Renowned faculties from our institute will also deliver lectures on several aspects of diabetes and endocrinology. This two-day course will present full spectrum of diabetes and endocrinology through lectures, interactive sessions, workshops and discussions,” said Dr Subhash.
