SHUATS case: HC allows Atiq’s impleadment application
The Allahabad high court on Tuesday allowed impleadment application of Atiq Ahmad in which he had requested the court to include him as a formal party in a petition related to SHUATS assault case.
The court granted him two weeks’ time to file a counter affidavit. The court will also hear the recall application filed by Atiq requesting the court to recall earlier orders passed by the court in the case.
Besides, the court asked the police to apprise it of the progress made in the investigation of the case and recovery of arms and arrest of remaining accused in the SHUATS assault case.
A division bench comprising chief justice DB Bhosale and justice Yashwant Varma passed the order while hearing a writ petition filed by Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) security officer, Ram Kishan Singh.
The petitioner approached the court seeking security alleging that he had serious threat to his life from Atiq Ahmad, a former MP. During the hearing, the standing counsel of the state government informed the court that police needed three weeks’ time to complete the investigation into the case. The court fixed April 7 as the next date of hearing in the case.
On December 14 last, Ahmad and his henchmen allegedly barged into the SHUATS campus in Naini area and assaulted its staff members for taking action against two students who were debarred from taking the examination after they were caught cheating.
On February 10, the high court summoned criminal history of Ahmad and also directed the Allahabad SP to arrest all accused persons in the case. The police arrested the former MP on February 11. He was remanded in 14-day judicial custody and sent to jail.
WHY MULTI-LEVEL PARKING NOT POSSIBLE IN NOIDA SECTORS: HC
The Allahabad high court asked the Noida authority on Tuesday to provide it adequate information as to why a multi-level parking was not possible in every sector of Noida, by the next date of hearing.
Passing the order, a division bench of chief justice DB Bhosale and justice Yashwant Varma asked Shivam Yadav, the counsel appearing for Noida authority, to place the sector wise information in the court about the area, population and feasibility of multi level parking.
The bench passed the order on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by a local Shrikant Vaidya.
While hearing the PIL petition, the court cited an example about the multi-level parking arrangements available in other parts of the country. During the hearing, the counsel for the Noida authority informed the bench that Noida was an old city and therefore a multi-level parking in every sector of Noida was not possible. The court will hear the case on April 10.
