A grand welcome awaits chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi when he arrives in Gorakhpur on Saturday. This will be his first visit to his parliamentary constituency after becoming chief minister.

The city has been decked up to receive the CM. “Artificial gates have also been erected between the airport and Gorakhnath temple in his honour,” said district BJP spokesperson Satyendra Sinha. Yogi is also the chief priest of Gorakhnath temple, which has been decorated with flowers and balloons, besides saffron flags.

During his two-day stay there, Yogi will give momentum to his dream projects – All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and fertiliser factory.

He has called a meeting of state medical education department officers and construction agencies in Gorakhpur Development Authority office on Sunday to discuss construction of the AIIMS building.

During the assembly election campaign, Yogi had assured the people that AIIMS and a fertiliser factory would be set up after the BJP government came to power in UP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation of the AIIMS in July 2016.

A medical education department officer said the new AIIMS will come up over 112 acre land within 45 months. The hospital will have 750 beds, besides 300 super-specialty beds. The students will have research and training facilities as well. Estimated construction cost is Rs 1,011 crore.

During campaigning, Aditya Nath had said the institute will prove to a milestone in ending regional imbalances by providing affordable medical service to the people in east UP.

It will also generate employment, he said.

Re-starting of the sick fertiliser factory is also among the top priorities of Aditya Nath. He will meet the officers of Hindustan Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited as well as the UP Pollution Control Board to discuss starting of the factory.

While laying the foundation stone of the fertilizer factory, Modi had said that it would generate 4,000 jobs and ensure supply of nutrients to farmers.

The fertilizer factory, run by Fertiliser Corporation of India Limited and closed in early 1990, will be revived with special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the public sector units with an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore.

The chief minister will also review progress of development projects as well as law order in a meeting with administrative and police officers of Gorakhpur region.

A state government officer said, “To improve power supply in the urban and rural areas of Gorakhpur region he will hold meeting with officers of UP Power Corporation. He will also review the construction of the highways -- Gorakhpur-Varanasi, Gorakhpur-Sonauli and Gorakhpur-Siddharthnagar -- in a meeting with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officers. Talking to HT, district unit leader Dharmendra Singh said, “The chief minister will fulfill the promises made to the people during the poll campaigning. He has directed officers to start work on projects that are his top priorities. He will also meet MLAs, MLCs and office bearers of the BJP district unit during his stay in Gorakhpur.”
