An alumna of University of Lucknow, Supriya Singh has topped in the Higher Education Commission examination conducted by the UP Higher Education Commission, the result of which was declared recently.

This is now a ticket for direct appointment as assistant professor in aided degree colleges of UP. There were total 74 vacancies. “I was confident of making it among top 25 students. But securing number one rank in this examination came as a bit of surprise,” the 29-year-old said.

This is not for the first time that Supriya has topped in any examination. Supriya secured highest marks in sociology during BA final year and was conferred a merit certificate and medal by the college.

“I had topped among girls while pursuing Master of Arts (sociology) in 2009,” she said. And was the second topper of the department and secured highest marks in M Phil (Sociology) in the year 2010.

Supriya said, “I have done PhD under the supervision of Prof Rajesh Misra on the topic ‘Land transactions and changing dimension of rural India: A study of two villages in the neighbourhood of an Indian Metropolis (Lucknow).’ The thesis is being published as a book by Cambridge Scholars Press UK (England).”

Supriya has been studying in Lucknow University for a good 9 years. She postgraduated in soci- ology in 2009, did MPhil in 2010 and was awarded PhD in 2016. “I was awarded Indian Council of Social Science Research Post Doctoral Fellowship at Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. But because of unavoidable circumstances, I am getting it transferred to Lucknow University,” she said.

She is a qualified UGC-JRF and NET in Sociology in December 2009. Presently, she is working as academic counsellor in Indira Gandhi National Open University at its Lucknow University centre. She has published 9 research papers and 2 book reviews in journals and edited books.

Supriya has participated and presented papers in 18 national and international conferences and seminars and has attended two “Young Sociologists Workshops” one at Cuttack (December 25-26, 2010) and another at IIT Delhi (December 9-10, 2011).
