GORAKHPUR: Chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi played the development card on his home turf Gorakhpur on Saturday and urged the people to assist him in the development of the state, ending corruption and establishing a rule of law.

“The successive governments at the Centre ignored UP, and the earlier state governments did not work for development of the state. The BJP government will work to make UP the number one developed state in the country. There will be no discrimination on the basis of caste and religion,” the CM said while addressing a felicitation function at Maharana Pratap Inter College ground here.

Invoking ‘saab ka saath, saab ka vikas’ motto of the central government, he said “my government will not pursue appeasement policy.”

On his first visit to his parliamentary constituency after becoming the CM, Aditya Nath was accorded a rousing welcome by the people from Gorakhpur airport to Maharana Pratap Inter College ground, where he attended a felicitation programme organised by the district BJP unit and citizens’ organizations. A large number of people, including women and children, stood on both sides of the road to welcome Yogi. Dis- trict administration officers were on toes since early morning, getting garbage littered on the road and choked drains cleaned and damaged roads repaired. Government offices and hospitals, police stations etc were decked up to welcome the CM. Aditya Nath said the people had given a big mandate to BJP and “we will have to work hard to fulfill their aspirations.”

He urged party workers not to “lose their cool in this moment of excitement.”

Yogi spelt out the agenda and priorities of his government. “There will be no new decisions. The election manifesto will be guiding principle of the state government,” he said.

“The benefits of welfare schemes will reach the people, sick sugar mills will be revived, new employment will be generated, migration of youths will be stopped, there will be an end to goonda raj, corruption will be checked and roads will be free of potholes by June 15,” Yogi said .

He also announced Rs 1 lakh assistance to the pilgrims going to Kailash Mansarovar. Pilgrim houses -- Kailash Mansarovar Bhawans -- will be set up in Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Noida.

He said the state government is preparing a plan for the welfare of the farmers too. “My government will plan for all classes and communities,” he said.

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Aditya Nath ‘Yogi’ wants pothole-free roads in the state by June 15. He has also announced an increase in subsidy given to the state’s pilgrims going for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

He asked the officers to send him a proposal in this regard soon. Yogi also gave various directions to senior officers while reviewing the working of PWD here on Saturday. Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who holds the PWD portfolio, was also present on the occasion.

The chief minister said timebound completion of projects was the state government’s priority. He said contractors having links with mafia or indulging in corruption should not be given any work. Instead the department should engage the contractors known for quality disposal of work, he said.
