Inspector suspended for chewing tobacco on duty

-

LUCKNOW: Taking the order of chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi casually proved costly for a police inspector posted in Lucknow on Saturday.

He was suspended for chewing tobacco while administering oath of cleanliness at his police station. He was also not in uniform and was in sleepers, district police spokesman, Hari Chandra said.

The CM had directed UP government officials to stop chewing pan, pan masala, etc. when in office, after seeing stained walls at secretariat building on March 22. In the wake of CM’s order, SSP Lucknow, Manzil Saini had asked her subordinates to administer oath of cleanliness at police stations. DIG Lucknow Range, Praveen Kumar, however, said there were several complaints pending against the inspector. He was allegedly involved in taking favour from a politician accused of raping and killing a student. The DIG said the preliminary inquiry against the inspector was also initiated.
