KHADI ALL SET TO GET TOP PRIORITY

LUCKNOW: Taking forward the union government’s pro-Khadi policy, the Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Gramodyog Board on Saturday felicitate­d traders who have generated employment for people in the khadi and Gramodyog sector.

At a function organised on Saturday at Sangeet Natak Academy, Gomti Nagar, Khadi and Gramodyog minister, UP government, Satyadev Pachauri honoured several people doing business in the rural sector.

It may be pointed out that khadi is on the priority list of the Modi government. Now, with BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, khadi and gramodyog sector would be accorded top most priority. On the occasion, the minister assured officials of the Khadi and Gramodyog Board all help in promotion of khadi.

GK Mishra, deputy chief operating officer, UP Khadi and Gramodyog Board, UP, apprised the gathering that in the financial year 2016-17, the Board had generated employment for 39,638 people by investing ₹170.39 crore. A khadi exhibition was also organised. However, it was the khadi fashion show which stole the show , with models displaying trendy khadi wear.

The micro, small and medium enterprise­s ministry, union government, has also planned to make khadi a source of employment generation in rural India by making it a part of PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign. Training centres for spinning khadi are being set up in villages all across the country.

Those passing out from these business incubators (training centres) are being provided loan under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme to set up their own khadi units.
