ALLAHABAD: Taking cognisance of the reports of doctors misbehaving with a 13-year-old divyang rape victim, state health minister Siddharth Nath Singh has directed the officials to complete probe at the earliest.

On his first official visit to Allahabad after taking over as minister, Singh asked the additional director (health and family), Allahabad division, Dr VK Singh to speed up probe so that strict action could be taken against the doctors concerned.

“The minister enquired about the case and stressed on early action in the case. Additional director (health and family welfare) is conducting inquiry into the case,” said CMO Dr Alok Verma. On February 14, the doctors at Dufferin Women’s Hospital allegedly refused to admit a divyang rape victim who was bleeding profusely.

The doctors even threatened the attendants that they would throw the victim out if they did not shift her to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital.

Later, the girl was admitted to the hospital after the intervention of the chief medical officer.

Meanwhile, on the directives of the health minister, the CMO recommended the suspension of Dr Rajesh Kumar, posted at Dufferin Hospital, for taking money from a patient. Singh inspected the general and private wards of Dufferin Women’s Hospital and spoke to patients and their attendants.

He said services and facilities at the hospital should be improved. The superintendent requested for appointment of doctors and staff at the hospital.

Earlier in the morning, the minister held a meeting with the officials of the health department and directed them to ensure availability of doctors at government hospitals and health centres.

He said life-saving apparatus and equipment should function properly and availability of medicines and other items should be ensured. The minister and doctors also participated in cleanliness drive near Chauphatka.
