RSS backs Yogi govt on crackdown on abattoirs
Coming to the aid of the Aditya Nath government in Uttar Pradesh that is facing protests by meat sellers over its crackdown on slaughterhouses, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) has made it clear that the government’s move has its support.
“I fail to understand what the hue and cry is all about. Anything that is illegal cannot be justified and I believe that the crackdown is against illegal slaughter houses only,” said Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh veteran Prabhu Narain.
The RSS’s defence of the Aditya Nath ‘Yogi’ government in Uttar Pradesh came on a day when majority meat and poultry sellers remained on strike against the crackdown.
The meat sellers have claimed that the licensed slaughter houses were unable to meet the growing demand. Instead of regularising more slaughterhouses, the Uttar Pradesh government had preferred to threaten their livelihoods by choking the buffalo meat supply, they said.
The curb on buffalo meat has meant the demand for chicken and mutton and prices of vegetables has gone up.
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, however, indicated that the Yogi government might soon hold discussions with meat sellers to end the impasse.
