Singapore teen jailed for insulting former PM Lee Kuan Yew granted political asylum in US

1 Yee was jailed for four weeks in 2015 after he shocked the country by posting an expletive-laden video attacking Lee after the founding prime minister’s death

3 On Saturday, Singapore’s home affairs ministry said Yee had engaged in “hate speech” but noted such rhetoric is allowed in the US. “It is the prerogative of the US to take in such people,” it said.
