First convocatio­n of Urdu, Arabi, Farsi varsity today

Eqrar Husain will receive Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Gold Medal at the first convocatio­n of the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu Arabi Farsi University, Lucknow to be held on Monday. Eqrar is a student of BA Arabic and obtained 992 out of 1050 (94.5%) marks.

Nida Khan, a student of Bachelors in Computer Applicatio­ns (BCA) will receive the Chancellor’s medal. She obtained 3254 out of 3600 (90.4%) marks, while Mohammad Haroon of BA Arabic has bagged Vice-Chancellor’s medal for securing 1641 out of 1850 (88.7%) marks.

UP governor and chancellor of the university Ram Naik would preside over the convocatio­n. Ashok Kumar Lahiri, former chief economic advisor, government of India would be the chief guest, informed SK Shukla, registrar of the university.

Besides, the university will give away four gold medals to students of under graduate and three students of post graduate courses. The four undergradu­ate course students, who will receive gold medals are Nida Khan (BCA), Sonu Sahu (BBA Commerce), Mohammad Haroon (BA Arabic) and Suneha Yadav (BA Geography). The three post graduate medal recipients are: Ahmad Naquib Ghufran (MBA), Safeena Zehra (MA Urdu) and Sumbul Mujtaba (MJMC).

The university’ was establishe­d on October 1, 2009 under UP State Universiti­es (Amendment) Act, 2010. It was renamed ‘Shri Kanshiramj­i Urdu, ArabiFarsi University on April 4, 2011.

In 2012, it was re-christened ‘Khwaja Moinuddin Urdu, ArabiFarsi University’ after Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
