Thousands join cleanlines­s drive at Sangam

Over 11,000 volunteers, comprising of government officials and employees, joined the mega cleanlines­s drive in the Sangam area on Sunday.

It was for the first time that such a large number of officers and employees from over a dozen government department­s came together to give Clean India message.

They also took a pledge in a colourful ceremony held near Sangam. Allahabad district magistrate Sanjay Kumar, who led this mega drive, administer­ed them oath.

The volunteers, from Civil Defence, Om Namah Shivay, NCC, NSS, Staff of Panchayati Raj, Anganwadi, Nagar Nigam, jawans of RAF, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, participat­ed in this mega Swacchata Abhiyan at Sangam.

The volunteers cleaned the Sangam ghat and urged the pilgrims and tourists to not to dispose polythene bags, puja material and flowers on the ghats.

Visitors also joined them to remove waste material from the ghats. Some also took selfie with senior government officials when they saw them cleaning the Sangam area.

Braving heat and dust women and children also joined this drive. According to district magistrate Sanjay Kumar the officials have also taken a pledge to keep their respective department­s clean and making proper arrangemen­ts of drinking water and clean toilet facilities for the visitors.
