GORAKHPUR: Chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi on Sunday said cow protection was among his top priorities and his government would work to promote dairy and animal husbandry sectors.

Talking to the media persons here, Yogi said the economy of Uttar Pradesh was based on agriculture and majority of the people earned their livelihood through farming.

“Cows are also required in religious rituals of the Hindus. Cowsheds will be promoted in all the districts. The central government is also promoting cowsheds in UP and other states. We will take assistance of the central government in setting up cowsheds and dairies,” he said.

Reiterated that there would be no discrimination on the basis of caste and community, the CM said: “I will continue to work for the development of UP. I need the assistance of the people to run the government and ensure that the benefits of welfare schemes reach the beneficiaries. Though I am a CM, I will work as a common man.”

“My government will not pursue appeasement policy. People of all communities will get benefit of welfare schemes. Women’s security also tops the agenda of the state government,” Yogi said.

Later, Aditya Nath offered prayer at the temples of Nath sect located on the mutt’s premises. He also reviewed the functioning of three dozen educational institutes run by Gorakhnath Temple Trust in a meeting of the management committee of schools and colleges.

The CM started his day by feeding cows and calves in the cowshed on the Gorakhnath mutt premises.

“For over two decades I have been feeding the cows. They recognise me and I have named some of them as well. I am feeding the cows after a week as I was busy with official engagements,” he said.

People started thronging the temple since early morning to have a glimpse of the CM. The mutt was decorated for the programme organised to mark the death anniversary of Baba Gambhir Nath.
