The BJP government’s crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses and ‘Road Romeos’ in the state has found a supporter in cricketer Mohd Kaif.

Kaif, who is the captain of Chhattisgarh cricket team and a part of the support team of Gujarat Lions for the Indian Premier League (IPL), took to Twitter to share views on the events that unfolded after Aditya Nath Yogi took over as chief minister.

Giving thumbs up to the CM’s decision, Kaif tweeted: “Tunday milein ya na milein, gundein na milein! Will be happy to see no gunday in UP. All illegal stuff must be stopped. Good moves. #UPshouldgoUP”

The reaction came days after the new CM directed the officials to shut down two illegal slaughterhouses in Allahabad and followed it up with similar action in other cities. Kaif’s tweet has attracted over 17,000 likes and has been retweeted over 11,500 times.

After PM Narendra Modi led the BJP to a sweeping victory in UP, Kaif tweeted on March 11 to congratulate the PM. “Congratulations @BJP4India and @narendramodi ji for a spectacular victory in UP and Uttarakhand. UP victory is massive. #ElectionResults,” he tweeted. While a number of celebrities congratulated the PM, Kaif was among the few who received a reply on the same day.

“Thanks a lot. Yes, the scale and support is historic,” the PM tweeted. Kaif also welcomed the surprise appointment of Aditya Nath Yogi as UP CM on March 19.

Kaif had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Phulpur seat on a Congress ticket. He lost to Keshav Prasad Maurya of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
