Students urged to make a difference in society
LUCKNOW: Governor Ram Naik on Monday expressed displeasure over Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu Arabi Farsi University’s decision of not giving medals to students of previous year (2015 batch) because the convocation was not held last year.
Presiding over the first convocation of the university , Naik said in his address that several students had complained against the university’s decision of not awarding them medals. He asked the university officials to hold a supplementary medal distribution ceremony for such students. Commenting on the poor quality of paper used for degrees, he said, “The university should have got the degrees laminated because students will preserve them throughout life.”
In his address, Naik said in spite of the low number of enrolments, girls were proving their mettle in all fields. He asked the students to be honest to themselves and others and urged them to imbibe values and virtues that made education more meaningful.
Dr Ashok K Lahiri, former economic advisor, Government of India, who was the chief guest, began his address with Swami Vivekananda’s famous quote, “Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reached.” He urged the students to make a difference in society and participate in leadership as active opinion makers.
He reminded the students that they had a dual responsibility of leading an enlightened life as well as spreading enlightenment among the less fortunate.
The vice chancellor of the university, Prof Khan Masood Ahmad asked the students to follow the path of righteousness and become ambassadors of peace and harmony. Overall, 245 students received degrees during the convocation while 10 students received the university medal for outstanding performance.
