LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh sports minister and former opener of Team India Chetan Chauhan visited the under-construction Ekana International Cricket Stadium at Saheed Path and said the facilities were worldclass. Accompanied by managing director of Ekana Sports City Udai Sinha and former Indian cricketer Gyanendra Pandey, Chauhan took stock of the facilities at the stadium where construction is in full swing. “He (Chauhan) praised the facilities at the stadium. His feedback has boosted our efforts of developing one of the top sports facilities in India,” Sinha told HT on Monday.

It is learnt that stadium is on the radar of many teams as one of the best prospects for the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League, starting April 5. If the remaining construction work of the stadium, including the facilities for players, is completed by mid-April, the stadium may get a few matches of this season.

“It is a perfect venue for IPL and we are hopeful of holding a few matches in this season,” an official of one of the teams had told HT a week ago. “We have the liberty to change the home ground for our matches but we need an update on completion of work at the stadium,” he said.
