Made of waste, Sangam police outpost boasts of beauty & comfort
ALLAHABAD: Police stations are an unlikely place to feel comfortable but the police outpost at Sangam can give a tough competition to even luxurious resorts.
The most interesting aspect of this outpost is that it is made up of waste material and scrap lying unused for years at Allahabad Police Lines.
The outpost, which was completed about four months ago, has been beautified with lamps, fencing of polished bamboo sticks. The outpost is surrounded by greenery, which enhances its beauty.
The state-of-the-art outpost has become a centre of attraction for pilgrims and senior police officers from other states.
Sub-inspector Umesh Singh, the in-charge of police outpost, said he took charge at Sangam two years back when it was a hutlike structure with a thatched roof.
“The ceiling used to leak during the rains and chilly winds from the banks of Sangam used to enter the rooms. Scorching heat during summers made it impossible to sit here. There was no greenery and the outpost had a gloomy look,” he said.
Umesh then informed ASP Ganesh Saha, who had taken charge as circle officer, Daraganj, about the problems.
Saha raised the issue with senior police officers and after seeking suggestions from experts, decided to use scrap material for the construction of a modern police outpost.
Tin shades, pipes, fibre plates and other material lying at the store of Police Lines were used by experts to create a beautiful structure. The new outpost was then painted to enhance its beauty. Its roof was covered with dried grass so that it does not absorb heat during summers.
Carefully trimmed and polished bamboo sticks, painted in green, were used for fencing, and decorative plants added greenery to the outpost.
The chamber of the in-charge was designed on the lines of a corporate office and hotel-like arrangements were made in the inner rooms where meetings of senior police officials are held.
In the courtyard, a hut-like structure was made on iron pillars with comfortable chairs for visitors and beautiful lamps were installed on the premises.
Umesh said he ensured regular cleaning drives at the police outpost. A water cooler was installed outside the outpost so that devotees faced no problem in getting clean and cool water.
“A modern, pollution-free and eco-friendly police outpost was a must at Sangam as people from all parts of the world visit the spot. This outpost is unique in the state and is a model for others to follow,” Saha said.
“A complaint box is also put up at the outpost during Magh Mela so that the visitors can put their complaints and suggestions in it,” Saha added..
