LMRC gets RDSO certificate

-

LUCKNOW :The Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) on Wednesday certified the Lucknow metro trains for safe running up to 80 kmph, based on the successful completion of the oscillation trials.

This report and certificate have been issued in a record time of 20 days as compared to 2-3 months taken for other metros. Earlier, these trials were also completed in record time much ahead of the scheduled date.

These tests were conducted at the maximum designed speed of trains which is 90 kmph. The tests were conducted with empty trains without any passenger load and with passenger load equivalent to crush loading of 8 passengers per square metre. To simulate passenger load, a large number of sand bags equivalent to about 80 tonnes were loaded in the train, said LMRC managing director Kumar Keshav.

During the oscillation test, different parameters for safe running of trains, including behaviour of bogie on curve, braking characteristics, running behaviour of train on viaduct and bridge were also tested. Different mechanical parameters were also examined. As per the existing procedure for opening of commercial services of metro for the public, approval of the railway ministry is required based on successful completion of the oscillation trials by RDSO and subsequent safety inspection by commissioner of metro railway safety (CMRS).

Lucknow Metro will now submit the request to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety for detailed review and inspection required for approval from the Railway Board.
