Now, 79 more PG seats in medical institutes across UP
LUCKNOW: The number of postgraduate (PG) seats in medical institutes/ colleges across UP has been increased by 79. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given permission for admission on these additional seats.
The move is aimed at giving opportunity to more candidates interested in pursuing higher medical studies.
In the long run, it is expected to improve patient care too.
Doctors said that in medical colleges, patient care depends on resident doctors (PG students), so an addition in their numbers will help improve the quality of clinical work.
The King George’s Medical University in Lucknow got extra seats in the departments of gynaecology, obstetrics and physical medicine and rehabilitation, while the BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, got seats in paediatrics, gynaecology and anaesthesia courses.
The GSVM Medical College has got additional seats in radiotherapy and ENT, and the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) got extra seats in general medicine, paediatrics, general surgery, ophthalmology and radiotherapy.
Seats in Aligarh Medical College have been increased in radiotherapy, respiratory medicine, anaesthesia, general surgery, orthopaedic department and psychiatry courses.
Jhansi Medical College got additional seats in general medicine, general surgery, obstetrics, ophthalmology and ENT.
In SN Medical College, Agra, seats were increased in radiotherapy.
The MCI representatives had earlier raised objections several times to allowing an increase in the number of seats.
However, when all their objections were addressed and infrastructure was improved, the body okayed the proposal.
