‘Traditional medicine systems to be revived’
Minister for AYUSH (independent charge) Dharam Singh Saini on Monday criticised the previous governments for ignoring traditional systems of medicine and said he would revive them for the benefit of the people.
“The previous government simply ignored AYUSH (Ayurved, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) which have proven benefits for different health problems,” said Saini, without naming the Samajwadi Party, at the World Homoeopathy Day programme on Monday organised at National Homoeopathy College.
Asked what plans he had for the development of AYUSH, the minister said, “The Modi government has made AYUSH a separate ministry and so I have been given independent charge in the Yogi government. I will do everything to revive the traditional systems of medicine.”
Experts at the event said that there was a need to make homoeopathy available for all by including services in all hospitals across the state.
“There are three basic issues for growth of homoeopathy, teaching, training and proper facilities for these two,” said Dr Anuruddh Verma, member, Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH).
Dr Manoj Mishra said that Ayurved had proved useful in many chronic diseases and offered immediate relief for several health problems.
He said that if traditional systems of medicine were included in hospitals, it would not only help patients but also reduce load on the hospitals and bring down the cost of treatment .
The presentation of the AYUSH department is on April 21 in which future course of action will be decided.
The minister said the administrative officials had been told to ensure facilities under AYUSH were running properly.
“We have directed the district magistrates, additional DMs and SDMs to ensure the homoeopathy doctors reach hospitals on time and the OPD at these hospitals run from 10 am to 2 pm,” said the minister.
