SP MLC booked for compensation fraud
LUCKNOW : Revenue officials on Wednesday lodged an FIR against Samajwadi Party MLC Bukkal Nawab alias Mazhar Ali Khan and some unidentified people for fraudulently obtaining compensation of ₹8 crore from the state government by showing government land as his property.
Vijay Sen, station house officer of Wazirganj police station said the FIR, lodged by nayab tehsildar (Sadar) Anurag Singh, also cited connivance of some government officials for clearing the compensation to the MLC without properly verifying the documents.
A senior official said the MLC produced forged documents before the revenue department claiming nearly 54 bigha of land in Lucknow at different locations in Jiamau, Bhikhamau and Juggauli as his property. He said the state government officials concerned did not verify the documents properly and cleared the amount. He said the matter came to light when a petition alleging fraud by the MLC was filed in the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court.
On October 26, 2016, the court ordered the revenue department to form a commission to probe the matter.
The revenue officials found major anomalies in clearing the compensation to the MLC and filed a report to the home department, seeking permission to register a police complaint. The FIR was lodged after the home department granted permission on Tuesday.
