Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said the previous SP government did not take funds from the Centre thinking it might give credit to PM Narendra Modi.

Speaking after launching 150 advanced life support ambulances at his residence, the chief minister said during the presentations by various state departments it came to light that despite the Centre’s readiness to provide funds, the state government avoided it.

“It compels one to think what answer such a government will give to people when it dumps welfare projects, despite the funds being provided in each department. When it comes to serving people, everything else should actually be set aside but this did not happen,” said Yogi.

He said the ambulances launched had been made available by the Centre for the past two years but even this was delayed by the previous government.

“India has a federal structure, so the Centre and the state need to work in coordination. This is important to change the BIMARU image of UP,” he said. On his government’s speed of working, the CM said, “In fact, this should be the speed at which governments should function.”

In all, 150 ambulances were dedicated to people and each district will get two of them. They are equipped with life-saving equipment and trained staff. They will be run by GVK EMRI, which is running 108 and 102 ambulance service. The existing ambulances (1488 basic life support ambulances of 108 service and 2270 of 102 service to cater to pregnant women and neonates requirement) have basic life support system while the advanced life support system includes ventilator too.

“These ambulances will run on strict rules and any equipment going defunct will invite a penalty of ₹ 10, 000,” said the CM. Soon, 100 more advanced life support ambulances will be added. The service will be available on the pre-existing dial 108 only.
