LUCKNOW: The advanced life support (ALS) ambulance service, launched recently by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, catered to first two patients on Monday.

In the first case, a youth from Farrukhabad had sustained gunshot injury on his skull.

The ALS ambulance reached the spot and got the youth admitted to Saifai medical institute in two-and-a-half hours.

The second case was from Lohia Hospital where a patient was suffering from serious respiratory distress.

He was shifted to KGMU in the ALS ambulance where the doctors admitted him and started treatment.

“There are 150 ALS ambulances in the state and each district has two,” said Ajay Yadav, spokesman of GVK EMRI that runs the ambulances.

ALS ambulances are equipped with life support equipment, including ventilators, and it can support patients in distress.

The staff deployed in the ambulance is trained.

The state government is planning to add 100 ambulances in a few months time.

Presently, there are over 1,488 (108) ambulances and 2,270 (102) ambulances in the state, besides 150 ALS ambulances.

The government is also planning to reduce the response time of the ambulances (which is 20 minutes in cities at present) by increasing the number of ambulances.
