KANPUR: A special ‘Autonomous Underwater Vehicle’ (AUV) was displayed at a one-day long exhibition of innovations at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) on Monday.

On the occasion, students of IIT-K exhibited a prototype model of a powerful human robot.

The AUV was developed by a team of 15 students at the National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai. Pleading anonymity a student said, “The autonomous underwater vehicle would be able to dive 40 metres deep and could reveal the underwater secrets.”

The students said that it took one year to develop the unique underwater vehicle with a total expenditure of rupees six lakhs.

They said the underwater vehicle could move towards a fixed direction.

The cameras fitted in it could take the picture of the properties hidden in the ocean’s base and could send it to the scientists for studies.

Efforts were afoot to make the underwater vehicle smaller in shape so that it could reach to the narrowest possible areas under the sea.

“After making new additions to the vehicle, we would apply for its patent so that it could be produced on commercial basis,” said the students.

Similarly, students of Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur developed the first human robot with a sharp memory.

The speciality of the robot is that it can recognise any human being after seeing him/ her once.

It can call the person by name. The robot can act with its hands and can answer the questions as well.
