HC ASKS AU TO REMOVE ALL ILLEGAL HOSTEL INMATES
ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court on Monday asked the registrar of Allahabad University (AU) to ensure that all unauthorised occupants are removed from hostels of the varsity and file an action taken report in the court.
The court also directed the district magistrate and senior superintendent of police, Allahabad, to provide all assistance to the Allahabad University authorities in the matter failing which both have to file their personal affidavits disclosing the reasons for non cooperation.
Besides, the court directed the registrar of Allahabad University to ensure strict compliance of the varsity rules, which provide that each hostel room that are occupied by students shall be vacated by April 30 of each year subject to the condition that the examination of the concerned students is over and that such hostels are white-washed and cleaned so as to be ready by June 30 for next batch.
A division bench comprising Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Rekha Dixit passed the order on a petition filed by an Allahabad University student Dharamveer Singh.
Singh took admission in MA Defence Studies in the varsity and was allotted a room in Tara Chand Hostel.
Singh moved court stating that despite being allotted the room he was not being provided actual accommodation.
The next date of hearing is on April 20.
