He has wheel-power to help mishap victims
VARANASI: He is a good Samaritan on wheels. Aman Yadav, a college student, runs a bike ambulance in Varanasi to extend first aid to road accident victims. His service is not linked to any phone number. He receives information about road mishaps from his friends and rushes to the spot on his bike with medicines, biscuits and water.
On reaching the site, he first cleans and dresses the wounds.
“Some prominent locals provide funds for buying medicines, biscuits and water bottles which I carry in the ambulance. I dress wounds and provide medicines to the injured. If I come across thirsty people, I offer biscuits and water,” says Yadav, a student of BA second year at Sankatmochan Degree College, Chaubepur.
Aman Yadav is in good company. Karimul Haque, a tea garden worker who ferries the ill, the poor and the fragile to and from on his bike in Jalpaiguri district in Bengal, has received a Padma Shree.
A Pandeypur resident, Aman Yadav has been involved in charity for the last six years. A jeweler Rajiv Verma gifted Yadav the bike around a fortnight ago. The college student then turned it into an ambulance, by attaching a medicine chest to it.
In the last one week, Yadav has extended relief to around a dozen people in different pockets of the city. Before getting the bike, Yadav used to ride a cycle to reach the victims and give them relief.
The inspiration to take up the noble cause came about six years ago when he saw a person writhing in pain in front of the divisional hospital at Kabir Chaura. He says he used to work at a medicine shop opposite the hospital at the time and learnt many aspects of first aid in his interactions with doctors.
“The man lying on the ground was in pain. Nobody was ready to touch him. I went to him and dressed his wounds. Later, extending first aid to accident victims became mission for me,” he says. Aman Yadav has a facebook page and 4400 friends.
