With the civic officials finally marking the areas of all 110 wards, the delimitation exercise of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has been completed.

As per additional municipal commissioner, PK Srivastava, “The wards of LMC have been reorganised for the next civic polls scheduled in May–June.”

“The number of wards in the municipal corporation will remain the same but areas of some wards have increased,” he added.

The exercise of ward delimitation has hit some corporators. For example, with the abolition of Sardar Patel ward four-time corporator, Girish Mishra, will have to search for another seat.

A new Kunj Behari ward has been created but most of the area of Sardar Patel ward has been shifted to other areas.

Similarly, with the abolition of Hazrtaganj ward sitting corporator Pradeep Kannaujia will have to search for another seat, but it will help four time corporator Nagendra Singh Chauhan who last time lost from Raimtirth ward.

With the abolition of Moulviganj ward and its merger with Mashakganj ward, the hold of Mujeeb-ur-rehman Babloo and his brother Said-ur-rehman would not be the same. The brother duo had been winning from Moulviganj ward for the last five times.

According to the details made available, some wards would be merged with other wards while some wards would be divided for the better management and restructuring of the city’s municipal corporation.

In the 2012 elections, the BJP had won 10 of the then existing 12 mayoral seats in the state. In Lucknow, the BJP had won 48 out of 110 seats.
