ALLAHABAD : Martyrs and their struggle to free India from British rule would soon come alive in a laser light show. Uttar Pradesh Tourism department in association with district administration of Allahabad is planning to re-create the history of freedom struggle and the life of some great revolutionaries such as Chandra Shekhar Azad in the colourful display of laser lights at Chandra Shekhar Azad Park (Company Garden) in Allahabad where this freedom fighter attained martyrdom.

“I discussed this proposal with district magistrate Allahabad Sanjay Kumar who assured us of working on this project on a priority basis. This would give a boost to tourism in Sangam city,” said Ravindra Mishra, Regional Tourist Officer, Varanasi with an additional charge of Allahabad.

Talking to Hindustan Times Mishra said for this they would be preparing a 45-minutes script on the life, sufferings and struggle of freedom fighters. “We will be taking help of freedom fighters and their families for writing the script. Some old residents of the city would also be contacted for giving useful and some unknown facts about the martyrs who laid down their life for the country,” he added.

Mishra said right now only Agra is having such a laser light show. “The second show is being launched in Sarnath, Varanasi on the life of Lord Buddha, which would start in June. Sangam and other places of religious and historic importance would also come alive in the laser show,” he further added.

According to Mishra, in the off season, the tourists generally stay only for a day in Allahabad. After taking a dip in Sangam they visit one or two places and prefer to return.

“Once the laser show begins here, they would be staying for one night at least. Similar, experiment was successful in Varanasi, where 20 years back tourists used to stay for just one day. But with the beginning of Ganga Aarti and other ceremonies the average night stay of tourists has increased to 3-4 nights,” he pointed out.
