High court denies relief to Shia Waqf Board chairman

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court on Tuesday dismissed the petition of UP Shia Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi seeking reprieve in a case of alleged misappropriation of funds and fraudulent transfer of waqf property.

The bench comprising justice Tarun Agarwala and justice Rajul Bhargava refused relief to the petitioner who sought quashing of the FIR lodged against him in Bareilly and stay on his arrest.

The petitioner contended he was falsely implicated in the case and the complaint against him was politically motivated.

Earlier too, FIRs were lodged against Rizvi in various cases of misappropriation of funds and fraudulent transfer of waqf property. The CB-CID is investigating the cases.

VERDICT RESERVED IN HATHRAS MURDER CASE

The Allahabad high court on Tuesday reserved its judgment in Hathras murder case where a boy was killed during an attack on Chiragveer Upadhyay, son of former UP minister Ramveer Upadhyay, on February 8 this year. The bench comprising chief justice DB Bhosale and justice Yashwant Varma passed the order on a writ petition filed by Ramhari Sharma, father of the deceased Pushpendra.

Sharma has challenged the transfer of the investigation of the case to the crime branch. The petitioner lodged an FIR against sitting SP MLA, Devendra Agarwal, and 11 others in connection with the killing of his son in the indiscriminate firing by 20-25 armed people on the fateful day.

During the investigation, police also added the names of 15 other accused in the case. The petitioner alleged that police were not arresting the accused persons.

The counsel appearing for state informed the bench that three accused had been arrested and that the investigation had been transferred to the crime branch.

WILL ENSURE LAWYERS’ WELFARE: AG

Uttar Pradesh advocate general (AG), Raghvendra Singh, on Tuesday said he would make all efforts to ensure welfare of lawyers. He further said he would also see to it that lawyers got the dignity they deserved. Singh expressed these views while addressing a programme organised by the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Allahabad, to felicitate him on this first visit to Allahabad after assuming charge.

The programme took place at the library hall of the high court. Singh was appointed the advocate general by the state government on April 13. He has also worked as president of the Awadh Bar Association. Earlier, he was accorded a warm welcome by office-bearers of the HCBA and lawyers in large numbers.
