LUCKNOW: A 45-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his nephew who apparently wanted to commit theft in his house in Indira Nagar on Saturday-Sunday intervening night.

The accused tried to portray the incident as a case of suicide and fled when the victim’s mother raised an alarm after spotting the body.

The victim, Vishnu Gopal Singh was a ward boy in Civil Hospital and stayed with his wife Pratibha, three kids and mother Maya Devi at his residence in Sector 10, Indira Nagar. He was placed under suspension as he was absent from duty without informing the authorities.

The deceased’s mother told cops that Vishnu’s wife, along with kids, was at her parents’ house for the last few days while Vishnu’s elder sister’s son Kallu, 30, was staying with them for the past three days.

She said Vishnu and Kallu used to drink liquor together every day at night and they were doing the same on Saturday when she went to sleep around 12 midnight, after telling them about food kept in the kitchen.

Dinesh Puri, circle officer, Ghazipur said the victim’s mother found him lying on the bed and Kallu standing alongside when she woke up on Sunday morning.

“She said Kallu tried to mislead her by stating that Vishnu tried to hang himself but he rescued him and now he is sleeping. She said she found an electric wire tied around Vishnu’s neck and he was lying dead on the bed. She said Kallu fled when she shouted for help,” added Puri.

Preliminary probe suggested that Kallu strangled Vishnu to death and later tried to hang the body from the ceiling fan to pose it as a suicide, said the CO.

The victim’s room was found ransacked and some belongings were found missing.

This hinted that Kallu apparently tried to commit theft after intoxicating Vishnu and killed him when he caught him redhanded, he added.

He said an FIR of murder had been registered against Kallu.
