NCERT textbooks likely to replace UP Board syllabus
First time in its over nine decade history, the UP Board is likely to replace its textbooks with that of the National Council of Research, Education and Training (NCERT).
Highly placed sources in the Board said acting on directives received from the state government, senior UP Board officials have started interacting with officials of the NCERT in this regard. In all probability, the existing UP Board textbooks will be replaced with NCERT books in April 2018 as NCERT officials have showed their inability to provide books for the academic session slated to commence from July 2017.
Around 1.35 crore students presently studying in class 9 to 12 of UP Board will require the new set of textbooks, printing of which was not possible in such a short time. As per the sources, the NCERT officials had also placed a proposal before the UP Board officials for availing its copyright and getting the requisite number of NCERT textbooks printed. However, Board officials have failed to act on the proposal so far. Sources revealed that the new syllabus would be implemented in class 9 and 11 and thereafter in classes 10 and 12. Senior officials of the Board, including secretary Shail Yadav, did not comment on the issue.
The union HRD ministry is planning to implement NCERT syllabus in all states of the country for ensuring uniformity in syllabus. Sources in the Board revealed that the HRD ministry had successfully implemented NCERT curriculum in 17 states with Tamil Nadu being the latest entrant.
