LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has sought central assistance to repair about 3000 kilometres of national highway roads in Uttar Pradesh.

Attending the meeting of Niti Ayog in Delhi, he said his government had decided to ensure that nearly 86000 kilometres of roads in the state were made ‘pot-hole’ free by June 15.

“About ₹4500 crore expenditure is expected in repair and upkeep of roads in the state, for which central assistance is required as about 3000 kilometres of these roads belong to the centre,” the CM said at the meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed the CMs at the beginning of the Niti Ayog meeting and sought their assistance in the making of a ‘new India’.

Yogi also said the state would be open defecation free (ODF) by October 2018. “Under Swachh Bharat mission the government has succeeded in making 3500 of the total 59000 ODF gram panchayats. By December this year itself, about 30 districts will join the ODF category and by October 2018 we expect the entire state to be ODF,” he said.

The CM said his government was focused on training teachers in the field of career counselling so that they could in turn counsel the students about making the right career choices. Yogi Adityanath emphasised on arming students with right skill sets from an early stage.

“Under this Skill Development Mission plan we plan to ensure that each member of every family interested in being part of the mission is provided skill sets. Under Skill Development Mission between 2014-15 to 2016-17 about 3.5 lakh of the total 5 lakh youths selected for various training and skill development programmes have been trained and of these about 1.5 lakh youths have been employed,” he said.

He emphasised the need for a regular five-year BPL survey by an independent agency for periodic assessment of BPL families so that the benefits of various schemes could be provided to them. Yogi said to ensure speedy justice, about 125 new courts have been proposed along with about 978 local courts that have come up over the years.
