The one-time settlement (OTS) scheme is a big hit among power consumers of Lucknowites as around 3,000 people have applied for it to clear their dues.

The UP Electricty Regulatory Commission (UPERC) gave its nod to OTS scheme for consumers who have delayed payment of their bills and want to clear their dues but are not able to do so due to heavy surcharges and penalties slapped on them by the power corporation. The commission approved UPPCL proposal to waive off the surcharge on arrears for both rural and urban domestic consumers.

LESA has more than 20,000 consumers who are erring on payment for more than a year. LESA is supposed to recover around Rs 200 crore from these old defaulters. The electricity consumers across the state have not cleared the bills of around Rs 15500 crore.

By waiving off surcharge, the effort is to attract the consumers to pay their pending bills so that non recovered amount of LESA is recovered said GM LESA Asutosh Kumar Srivastava. He added, “The registration in big numbers for OTS indicates that most of the Lucknowites want to clear their dues under the OTS.”
