Students go for Indian attire
KANPUR: The students of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) would wear Indian attire on the convocation day, which is supposed to be the most important and the memorable day of a students’ life.
The students had asked the IIT-K administration to allow them to wear ‘kurta pyjama’ with stole on their shoulders during the 50th convocation of the institute scheduled for June 15 and June 16.
Deputy director of the institute Manindra Agarwal said the dress code for the convocation was decided by the students themselves and the IIT-K administration approved it. The new dress would reflect the Indian culture and tradition.
The chief guests at the convocation including chairman of Tata Sons Natrajan Chandrashekharan and junior president of National Academy of Engineering USA C Dainiel would also be in a new dress. The dresses for the chief guests were being tailored. Dr Agarwal said, “For the first time, the live telecast of the convocation proceedings would be made to facilitate the parents of the students. Television sets would be installed in the hall number 18 and 19 where the parents would be asked to sit and watch the proceedings as the auditorium was not spacious enough to accommodate so many guests, he added.
