BJP MLA booked for assaulting bank manager
BAREILLY: An FIR was lodged against a BJP MLA after he allegedly manhandled and wrongfully detained a manager of a rural bank branch in Nawabganj area of Bareilly on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, bank officials went on a strike in protest against the MLA’s behaviour and demanded his arrest.
Kesar Singh Gangwar, MLA from Nawabganj, reportedly entered the Baroda UP Gramin Bank in Dalelnagar village around 3 pm on Thursday. “The MLA came with the village head and half a dozen supporters. He asked me to cancel the loans of three villagers and manhandled me when I told him that the cancellation will take time,” said Harish Singh Hanki, bank manager. “He later dragged me out of the branch and forcefully took me to a vacant marriage hall,” he added. The manager was reportedly detained there for an hour. “His supporters removed my shirt and tied me to a chair,” added the bank manager. The manager was released only after the intervention of senior bank officials . The manager lodged a police complaint regarding the incident on Wednesday night.
Police lodged an FIR against the MLA under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 347 (wrongful confinement), 353 (assault and criminal force to deter public servant), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
“We have formed a team to investigate the matter and those found guilty will be arrested soon,” said Ashutosh Kumar, DIG (Bareilly range). Meanwhile, the MLA refuted all the allegations. “I went there only to meet the manager regarding some problems of villagers. I have no idea why he has filed a police complaint against me,” Kesar Singh Gangwar told HT on phone.
