LUCKNOW: Treatment at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) will be cheaper from Monday as the hospital advisory committee has reduced the rates of several facilities. This will benefit over 4,000 patients every day.

Sample this. A deluxe room for ₹2,200 will now be available to patients for ₹1,200 while private rooms will be charged at ₹600 instead of ₹1,000.

“Rates of facilities, tests will be reverted to what they were some eight months ago. The decision has been taken by the vicechancellor and passed by the hospital advisory board,” said Prof NS Verma, spokesperson, KGMU.

However, the final decision on reducing the rates is vested with the hospital advisory board

A week after taking over as vice-chancellor of KGMU, Prof MLB Bhatt had decided to revoke the fee hike for patient care facilities effected during the tenure of the previous vice-chancellor.

With the decision almost every clinical department where patients come for treatment/ diagnosis and admission will have rates of some facilities reduced.

Rates of some of the diagnostic facilities will come down by up to 25 percent.

The medical university has also planned to start AMRUT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) centres for cheap drugs to be made available on the campus.

A team from AMRUT scheme had visited the campus two days ago. This facility will enable patients to get almost all the drugs at lower prices.
