A section of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) teachers condemned the incident in which an assistant professor’s car was allegedly vandalised and stones were pelted at his house on the campus after he organised a condolence meeting for the jawans killed in Sukma and Kupwara.

“We, as concerned faculty members on behalf of teaching community, are outraged at this mindless vandalism and strongly condemn this most cowardly criminal act directed at one of our colleagues,” teachers said.

Assistant professor Buddha Singh has alleged that his car was vandalised on Friday midnight after he organised the condolence meeting. “My car was vandalised and stone-pelted at home at midnight as a reward for organizing condolence meet at JNU and mass gathered for Sukma and Kupwara Martyrs,” Buddha Singh tweeted.

Along with the tweet he posted two pictures of the damaged windshield of his car.

A complaint has been registered against anonymous people at Vasant Kunj police station. Teachers said they will meet vice chancellor Jagadesh Kumar and will demand proper inquiry.

Saurabh Sharma, former joint secretary JNU students’ union, alleged the stone pelting was done by “frustrated communist goons”.

JNUSU said it “outrightly condemns” the Maoist violence in Sukma and pays its homage to CRPF personnel, who lost their lives.

The union termed Buddha’s allegation as “cheap publicity” and alleged that such actions are an attempt to divert attention from the real issue.

“Buddha Singh of JNU made diversionary statement for cheap publicity that his car has been vandalised because he organised a programme on Sukma! RSS always resorts to such tactics to divert attention, so that tough questions are not put to home minister Rajnath Singh,” JNUSU said in a statement.

JNUSU said it demands proper inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, RSS ideologue Rakesh Sinha alleged that a section of teachers and students in JNU are actively sympathising with ‘extremist elements’.

“There is a section of teachers and students in JNU who have sympathies with naxal elements. In fact, they give ideological legitimacy and they are also insensitive. From Dantewada to Sukma, they appreciated naxals and celebrated the killing of CRPF personnel,” Sinha told a news agency.

A COMPLAINT HAS BEEN REGISTERED AGAINST ANONYMOUS PEOPLE AT VASANT KUNJ POLICE STATION.
