Union minister for urban development Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said there should be no dilution of spirit of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act. The state government was likely to constitute regulatory authority by the end of July 2017.

Naidu also said builders will be sent to jail under the provisions of the RERA if they fail to fulfil the commitments made in the scheme advertisements or brochures.

“Some real estate builders have done injustice to consumers in Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida. Now, the regulator will be able to impart justice to them,” said Naidu.

The Real Estate Act has been implemented in the state from May 1. Only 14 states have notified setting up of the authority. The authority has to be set up in three months.

Naidu said the union government will soon grant approval to a 29.7 km metro rail project of Noida that will be implemented at a cost of Rs 5,503 crore.

Naidu also said state government should make use of Doordarshan and All India Radio which are public broadcasters. The programmes aired by DD and AIR should also be in Brij, Awadhi and Bhojpuri languages, he suggested.

Naidu, who is also the information and broadcasting minister, said DD Kisan channel will be strengthened with the help of the union agriculture ministry and the state agriculture universities.
