Top ranked players set to play in AITA Championsh­ip

Many a top ranked players both in men and women categories would be seen in action in the AITA 50K Men and Women Championsh­ip, starting Monday, at the grass courts of the Oudh Gymkhana here. Sports excellence and UP Tennis Associatio­n are jointly holding the event, qualifying round of which would be played on Saturady and Sunday. Players from all parts of the country have confirmed their participat­ion and eight from qualifying in each category would make it to the main draw. Omlata Rai, Mariyam Khan in women’s and Gautam Anand, Nagendra Rai, Anurag Mishra and Sumit Gupta would be leading Uttar Pradesh’s challenge in the main draw.

MONU EXCELS

Seamer Monu Paswan’s determinat­ion not to lose his wicket after snapping four crucial wickets helped UP Timber Club (UPTC) notch up a thrilling onewicket win against LDA Caching Centre (LDACC) to make it to the final of the State Cricket Tournament here on Friday. Paswan’s four for 50 first helped UPTC restrict LDACC for 282 in 49.2 overs, and then scored unbeaten seven runs in three balls and added unbeaten eight runs with last man Hasan Akhtar (1) to fashion team’s thrilling win.

LDACC 282 in 49.2 overs (Upendra Yadav 71, Akshdeep Nath 47, Prathul Mehta 36, Rahul Rawat 29, Monu Paswan 4 for 50, Saumitra Singh 2 for 42) lost to UPTC 283 for nine in 49.4 overs (Amit Chopra 98, Mayank Yadav 54, Shubham Chaubey 52, Zeeshan Ansari 3 for 64, Himanshu Asnora 2 for 42).

KAPOOR CRICKET

K Sporting made it to the semi-finals of the 3rd Rahul Kapoor Memorial Cricket Tournament, defeating hosts Rahul Kapoor Cricket Academy by 16 runs, at the Northern Railway Stadium here on Friday. After scoring 189 in 34.5 overs, K Sporting skittled out rivals for 173 in 34.5 overs. Anand Srivastava and Janmajai Yadav took four and three wickets. In other league match of the day, NDBG Cricket Club defeated Panther Cricket Academy by six wickets.

EMPHATIC WIN

Gulmohar Cricket Academy scored an emphatic 100-run win against Sandeep Cricket Academy by 100 runs in a league match of the U-15 Sandeep Cricket Trophy, at the RDSO Stadium here on Friday.

GCA scored 247 for eight in 40 overs while batting first after winning the toss, and then skittled out SCA for 147 in 28.2 overs. Yash Vardhan remained the star performer, bagging five for 16.
