Cops arrested liquor trader Sanjay Kedia on Monday in connection with the attack on his wife.

To recall, two armed miscreants opened fire on Monica Singh, 32, second wife of Kedia, on May 6, outside Sky Hilton Hotel in Krishna Nagar. A security guard of the Sky Hilton hotel, who tried to rescue the woman, had also sustained bullet injuries.

Monica suffered bullet wounds in her neck while guard Shailendra Tiwari was hit in his right hand. They were rushed to King George’s Medical University (KGMU)’s trauma centre, where the woman’s condition is stated to be critical.

In her statement to cops, Monica had accused her estranged husband of the attack. Monica stays in Vijay Nagar locality while Kedia and his first wife live in Deoria.

Ajay Shahi, station house officer, Kaiserbagh, confirmed Kedia’s arrest. Monica told the cops that Kedia married her around a year ago by concealing his first marriage. But she got separated from him soon after coming to know about his first wife. It was due to the sustained efforts of the surveillance team of SSP Deepak Kumar and the Kaiserbagh police that Kedia could be arrested.
