Accusing cops of inaction, woman makes immolation bid

A 21-year-old woman, student of LLB II year, tried to immolate herself in front of the SSP office on Monday.

However, cops checked her before she could do so. She was brought to the Civil Lines police station, where she alleged that the police had registered her FIR of kidnapping, rape and acid attack only under Sec. 364, ie kidnapping.

She also alleged that the police were pressurisi­ng her to withdraw the case.

Inspector in charge ( Civil Lines) Sunil Kumar Verma told HT, “Priyanka, daughter Brijesh Gautam of Nagola village tried to immolate herself immolation in front of the SSP office due to no action in her case. Police saved her.”

He said in May 2015, a case of assault and attempt to murder was registered in Khair police station against Priyanka’s father Brijesh Gautam and brother Kuldeep Gautam under Sec. 308 in 2015 by Amer singh of same villege and her father and brother were sent to jail. Later they were released on bail after three months.

He said that afterward on March 4 this year, Priyanka lodged a case of kidnapping, acid attack and rape against her neighbours Amer Singh and others in Khair police station.

Cops registered the case under Section in 364 IPC. He said Priyanka also complained to the DIG and SSP that police had not taken action in her case. On Monday, she attempted self immolation.

Priyanka said she was kidnapped while going to college and was attacked with acid, besides being sexually assaulted. But cops did not act on her FIR, so she complained to senior police officials .

She said she tried to molest herself as she had lost confidence in the police. She said she would now meet UP chief minister Yogi Aditya Nath and lodge a complaint against the Aligarh police.

Brijesh Gaatam said, “Police have not taken any action on the FIR lodged for kidnapping of my daughter and have tried to enclose final report on it terming it as a false case. “

THE VICTIM SAID SHE WAS KIDNAPPED WHILE GOING TO COLLEGE AND WAS ATTACKED WITH ACID, BESIDES BEING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. BUT COPS DID NOT ACT ON HER FIR, SO SHE COMPLAINED TO SENIOR POLICE OFFICIALS .
