Lodged in a shelter in Katni an eight-year-old girl’s vulgar and objectionable behaviour unfolded the trauma she had been undergoing for at least two months induced by a rapist. The latter was arrested.

According to police, the shelter owner Sameer Chaudhary came to know about the girl’s behaviour on Sunday last when she hurt another girl. The injured girl who was bleeding from her private parts complained to the shelter superintendent and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The hospital doctor on duty informed the police. But what the accused girl shared with the police was more horrifying. She had been repeatedly raped for two months in another shelter.

When asked why she had hurt her friend in the shelter the girl told the police that Vishnu Bhaiya (a peon working in another shelter) ‘used to do it with me daily’.

“He used to sleep with me. When I used to complain of pain he used to tell me that it’s a good thing for health,” the girl told the police as Katni police said to HT.

The girl was shifted to the present shelter on March 1 having spent two months at a ‘Shishu grih’ (meant for 0-6 years old girls) in Katni itself from January 1. She had lost her parents a few years ago and started begging in trains. She was rescued by Child Line and handed over to child welfare committee (CWC) and the committee in turn shifted her to the ‘Shishu Grih’. When the girl’s real age was ascertained to be eight, she was shifted to present shelter in Katni itself.

The children home owner Sameer Chaudhary said, “We were shocked on coming to know about the girl’s ordeal. A girl who is just eight-year-old was going through so much trauma without knowing the bitter reality.”

Katni assistant sub-inspector Kirti Shukla said, “We have arrested Vishnu, who worked as a peon in the Shishu Grah. The girl is being counselled by counsellors. The injured girl in the hospital is still being treated but she is fine now.”

THE HOSPITAL DOCTOR ON DUTY INFORMED THE POLICE. BUT WHAT THE ACCUSED GIRL SHARED WITH THE POLICE WAS MORE HORRIFYING.
