Varun wins snooker title
Varun Kant won the Shanshank Shekhar Singh Memorial Snooker Tournament (handicap), defeating Varun Egbert in straight frames at the Oudh Gymkhana here on Sunday. Playing true to his reputation, an agile Varun kept dominating the proceedings from the very start and won the first frame by 62-35. Though Egbert tried to stage a comeback in the second frame by playing some eye-catching shots, it made no difference to Varun, who pocked the frame as well as title 70-52.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Varun Egbert (+24) defeated Vishwajeet Mohan (+21) 85-64, 78-68, whereas Varun Kant (+18) beat Ashish Shukla (+21) 89-59, 85-61. Meanwhile, in the Shanshank Shekhar Singh Memorial AITA Championship at the Vijayantkhand stadium on Sunday, eight qualifiers for the boys under-16 main draw were spotted.
Lakshay Tikoo beat Om Yadav 8-5, Faraz Shakir beat Tarun Randhawa 8-6, Jeevesh Pandey beat Aditya Dwivedi 8-0, Aryaman Mehta beat Amrit Raj 8-3, Arjun Sharma beat Aaron Lovie Samuel 8-1, Anup Bangardi beat Maan Kesarwani 8-6, Siddharth Yadav beat Manas Tiwari 8-4 and Yash Verma beat Shakti Singh 8-0.
