CA held for hacking irrigation dept portal

-

LUCKNOW: The cyber cell of the Lucknow police arrested a chartered accountant on Monday for hacking the irrigation department’s e-filing portal, which was being used to file TDS of non- salary account bills of the department.

The accused has been identified as Sanjay Fedrick Singh, a resident of Lalbagh, under Hussainganj police station. According to cops, the CA was earlier filing TDS returns on behalf of the irrigation department. However, he was later removed. Prakash Kumar Singh, an engineer of the irrigation department, had lodged a complaint with Lucknow police’s cyber cell on May 3, complaining about hacking of the e-filing portal of the department.

During probe, cops came to know that someone had reset the password used for logging into the e-filing portal. Later, the cops came to know that Sanjay had the password for logging into the website, as he was earlier filing TDS returns on behalf of the irrigation department.

“When the CA was working for the irrigation department, he knew the password. When his services were no longer required, he deliberately changed the password before the department could change it,” said a cyber cell cop probing into the case.

ACCORDING TO COPS THE CA HAD THE WEBSITE’S LOG IN PASSWORD, AS HE WAS EARLIER FILING TDS RETURNS ON BEHALF OF THE IRRIGATION DEPT
