Women now venturing outdoors freely at night in UP: Guv
Governor Ram Naik on Monday said the Yogi Adityanath government’s top priority was to establish the ‘rule of law’.
He also said women had begun moving outdoors freely at night after the state government’s decision to set up ‘antiRomeo squads’.
“Now, strong action is being taken against eve-teasers and criminals, so women are venturing out at night our also,” the governor said in his 101-page written address before a joint sitting of two houses of the state legislature here on Monday.
Naik said the Yogi government had directed all the police stations to lodge all FIRs and take prompt action.
He said the state government was committed to fulfilling the aspirations of people, eradicating corruption and giving a transparent administration with emphasis on ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ to turn Uttar Pradesh into a frontline state on the path of development.
The governor took a dig at previous regimes and said Uttar Pradesh was lagging behind other states despite having a glorious past.
“The past of Uttar Pradesh has been glorious. It has given several capable leaders to the country, who are revered by entire nation. Uttar Pradesh was once a leading state of the country. But in the past many years, it has lagged behind as compared to other states,” said the governor.
He said the state government will provide good governance to bridge the gap between policies and their implementation.
“My government will encourage officers and employees doing good work, but the corrupt and inefficient officers and employees will be punished….My government has made efforts to ensure the timely presence of officers/ employees in offices. Gradually, biometric machines are being installed in offices to register the presence of officers/employees,” said Naik.
He said the district magistrates and superintendents of police will remain present in their offices from 9am to 11am.
He also referred to the state government’s loan waiver scheme and said 86 lakh farmers will benefit from it. This will put an additional burden of Rs 36,000 crore on the state exchequer, he said.
The governor gave a detailed account of ongoing schemes and quoted the Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra 2017 (BJP manifesto) for the proposed schemes. He said the cost of projects escalated due to delay in their implementation.
“With an objective to end cost and time overrun and ensure timely completion of projects, guidelines will will be issued for signing of MoUs for the projects,” he said.
Naik said a Mukhya Mantri Sichai Fund with Rs 20,000 crore will be set up to provide water to every field.

About Lucknow Metro, he said trial run of the priority corridor of the project had started on December 1, 2016.
“After the sanction from Commissioner of Railway Safety” and trial run, the services on the priority corridor will be provided to the commuters,” said the governor.
