Two people were arrested in Agra on Sunday in connection with the staff service commission (SSC) examination paper leak.

The duo had made a deal with another accused, Mukesh of Hathras, to get the question paper one hour before the test for a sum of Rs5 lakh.

The New Agra police is now working on identifying other members of the network by probing a whatsapp group that was central to the paper leak in Agra.

The SSC examination papers were held in two shifts. During the morning shift paper, police received a tip-off that a man on Dayalbagh road had answers to all the questions on his mobile phone. They rushed to the location and nabbed the man, who was identified as Lokendra Singh of Mirhachi town, Etah.

“Lokendra informed that his brother-in-law Pushpendra Singh was appearing in the examination at the Baptist Higher Secondary School centre in Agra. We arrested him after the paper,” said Narendra Singh, in-charge New Agra police station.

“They said they had another associate Mukesh who told them he would give them the question paper for ₹ 5 lakh. The duo got the paper one hour before the test and it was decided that the payment will be made after the exam,” said Singh.

“As there was no advance payment, Pushpendra gave his original mark sheets to Mukesh as ‘security’. However, their game was spoilt with Lokendra and Pushpendra getting arrested,” he added.

The arrested men informed that the network operated via a whatsapp group called MTS that had ten members.

Cops are now working on these numbers to reach the kingpin, who’s reportedly from Moradabad.

“A report has been forwarded to the circle office of Hari Parvat circle, who will in turn forward it to the district authorities for recommending the cancellation of the paper,” said Singh.
