Maharashtr­a girl continues to hog limelight in AITA Series

Maharashtr­a girl Vaishnavi Adkar continued to hog the limelight in the girls singles of the Shashank Shekhar Singh Memorial AITA Championsh­ip Series even on Wednesday, upsetting yet another seed in straight sets, at the Vijayantkh­and Stadium here.

Adkar, who had stunned top seed Shambhavi Tewari in a perquarter­final match on Tuesday, went on knocking down eighth seed Meena Rubita of Madhya Pradesh 6-1, 6-4 to make it to the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Second seed Advancy Goldsmith of hosts, third seed Ananya Yadav of West Bengal and fourth seed Mekhala Manna also from West Bengal completed the semi-final line-up, notching up almost identical wins.

Advancy defeated state-mate Tanushree Pandey 6-2, 6-1, Ananya beat fifth seed Sanya Yadav of West Bengal 6-1, 6-0, whereas Mekhala proved tough for sixth seed Manali Srivastava of hosts 6-0, 6-0 also in the straight sets.

It was altogether a different story in the boys singles as top seed Vaibhav Singh Bisht of UP and second seed Kanav Goel of West Bengal marched into the semi-finals, scoring easy wins. Vaibhav beat seventh seed Umakant Singh 6-2, 6-1, whereas Kanav beat Anup Bangargi of Maharashtr­a 6-2, 6-1.

Two other UP boys Shubendra Bhadauria and Maan Kesarwani joined them. The latter played a thriller where he saved a match point at 4-5 in the third set before winning it in a tiebreak against Yash Verma 7-6 (3), 4-6, 7-6 (4), whereas Shubendra brushed aside state-mate Aryaman Mehta 7-6 b(3), 7-6 (4).

In the boys doubles the top seed duo of Kanav Goel and Sreejet Sen of West Bengal were stunned by Anup Bangargi (MH) and Mohit Mishra (UP) 4-2, 4-1. Second seed pair of Samit Kesari and Vansh Yadav , third seed Vaibhav Singh Bisht and Aditya Saraswat and the fourth seed Shashikant and Shrikant moved in the semi-finals with easy wins.

In the girls doubles, Ananya and Sanya Yadav, Advancy Goldsmith and Manali Srivastava made it into the semi-finals. They were joined by Shambhavi Tiwari and Manali Srivastava who recovered well to win in the third set tie break 10-8 after losing the first set 3- 5.

THRILLING WIN

Sports College continued their winning streak in the Prime Sports Trophy Cricket Tournament, registerin­g a thrilling twowicket win against Jyoti Club to make it to the semi-finals, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Wednesday. Chasing 153 in 30 overs, Sports College achieved the target with one-ball to spare. Meanwhile, in a pre-quarterfin­al match, NDBG Club defeated Dhruv Cricket Academy (Junior) by four wickets, at the Multi Activity ground.

FINE BATTING

Gaurav (47) and Rakesh (43) batted well as Punjab National Bank defeated Dena Bank by 45 runs in a league match of the 1st AIBOC Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari Stadium here on Wednesday. PNB piled up 170 for five in 20 overs while batting first, and in reply, Dena Bank could score 125 for nine.

SANDEEP HITS TON

Sandeep Pandey struck 107 in 85 balls with the help of 13 fours and two sixes as Abhijeet Sinha Cricket Academy trounced Avadh Cricket Academy in a league match of the Lucknow Trophy Cricket Tournament, at the Chowk Stadium here on Wednesday. ASCA made 216 and then skittled out ACA for paltry 87 in 23.4 overs. Dheeraj Yadav took four for 11.

CONVINCING VICTORY

Hosts Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow (CAL) ‘A’ crushed DCA Hardoi by 10 wickets in a league match of the Zonal Under-19 Cricket Tournament, at the Northern Railway Stadium here on Wednesday. After skittling out Hardoi for paltry 85 in 26.5 overs, CAL ‘A’ romped home in 23 overs without losing a wicket.
